The European Union will continue to support Ukraine because the spirit of Europe lives in every city and region. This was stated by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola at the second International Summit of Cities and Regions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"You are not only fighting to defend your homes and your territory. You are fighting for what we believe in - the European way. Today is Europe Day and we understand that the spirit of Europe lives in every region and every city of Ukraine," she said.

Metsola assured that the European Union will continue to support Ukraine by condemning the actions of the aggressor, adopting sanctions against the Kremlin, bringing all war crimes perpetrators to justice, and will provide Ukraine with diplomatic, political, humanitarian, financial and military assistance as much as necessary.

As an example, the President of the European Parliament recalled the initiative to transfer hundreds of generators to Ukraine from European cities and municipalities and the reception of millions of refugees at the beginning of a full-scale war.

"I am approaching Ukraine's future as a member of the European Union. This is the promise we made last December. This is the promise that the European Parliament has been working on since the very first days. This is a promise we will definitely keep. The path to accession will certainly be difficult, and Ukraine's path is unique in many ways, because we need to take into account the urgency of rebuilding Ukraine's infrastructure and economy. But the European Parliament and the European Union will be ready to help. We will come back and rebuild together. Because Europe is Ukraine and Ukraine is Europe," Metsola stressed.

As reported, the second International Summit of Cities and Regions is taking place in Kyiv. More than 200 participants are taking part in it.
