First Public Bilingual School for Children from Ukraine Opened in Hungary
The Hungarian capital Budapest has opened the first public school where education will be conducted simultaneously in Ukrainian and Hungarian.
This was announced on the X network by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
‘An important step between Ukraine and Hungary. A public school has been opened in Budapest, where children have already started studying in Ukrainian and Hungarian. About 400 Ukrainian children have already become its students,’ he wrote.
The school consists of a primary and a high school.
The Hungarian newspaper Magyar Narancs reported that the opening of the school was personally agreed upon by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, Viktor Mykyta, also commented on the opening. In his opinion, bilingual education will help integrate Ukrainian children while preserving their native language and culture.
