Germany to Boost Defense Aid for Ukraine to Record €11.5 Billion in 2026
Germany is set to sharply increase its defense assistance to Ukraine next year, bringing total military support to over €11.5 billion.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Welt, citing the latest submission from Germany’s Ministry of Finance to the Bundestag Budget Committee.
The new funding will be included under a special budget category titled “Strengthening states attacked in violation of international law in the areas of security, defense, and stabilization.”
Government sources indicate that the expanded funding will be directed toward artillery systems, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot air-defense systems already transferred to Ukraine.
The Budget Committee of the Bundestag is scheduled to meet on Thursday, November 13, for the final approval of Germany’s 2026 national budget.
Germany remains Europe’s largest military donor to Ukraine, having provided or pledged around €40 billion in aid since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
In the initial draft of the 2026 budget, only €8.5 billion had been earmarked for Ukraine’s defense support.
The revised figure marks a one-third increase, reflecting a growing recognition within the German government that long-term security in Europe depends on Ukraine’s resilience.
Earlier, on October 25, German Minister of Economy and Energy Katharina Reich announced during her visit to Kyiv that she would expand support for the Ukrainian energy sector.
It is expected that Berlin would increase its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to €450 million, which will be used to purchase technical equipment and modernize power grids to strengthen Ukraine's energy resilience in the face of Russian attacks.
As The Gaze previously reported, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, announced the preparation of joint projects with Germany in the field of housing, noting that more than 300,000 houses in Ukraine have been destroyed or damaged.
