NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has expressed hope that Ukraine will become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance within the next 10 years.
He said this in an interview with DPA, excerpts of which were published by DW, Ukrinform reports.
Stoltenberg believes that the stronger this support is, the sooner the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine will end. According to the NATO Secretary General, Russian President Vladimir Putin is implementing a strategy to slow down the war in Ukraine, hoping to weaken the West's resolve.
"Putin thinks he can weaken us. We must convince him that he cannot outlast us, and then this will create the conditions for the end of the war," the NATO Secretary General said.
As Ukrinform reported, the NATO anniversary summit dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Alliance will be held in Washington on 9-11 July.
It is expected that the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance will sign a commitment in Washington to provide Ukraine with military assistance worth 40 billion euros in 2025. This amount corresponds to the amount of annual Western assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's armed invasion in February 2022.
