Shmyhal: €1.4 Billion in Defense Deals Concluded Under the “Danish Model”
Over the past three months, Ukraine's partner countries have invested €1.4 billion in the purchase of weapons and equipment under the so-called “Danish model.”
The Gaze reports on this, referring to Militarnyi, citing Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
According to Shmyhal, within the framework of the “Danish model,” partners have already paid €427.8 million to Ukrainian manufacturers, and another €825.9 million has been allocated in a new tranche. This mechanism has become an important tool for strengthening the capabilities of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex (DIC) and increasing independence in providing for the Defense Forces.
It should be recalled that the “Danish model,” launched in 2024, provides for Ukraine to form a list of projects for financing, while Danish experts check manufacturers and direct funds from partners to them. Under this scheme, approximately $1 billion was raised in 2024, of which approximately $550 million worth of deliveries were made by the end of the year.
The increase in funding in 2025 demonstrates the growing confidence of international partners in the Ukrainian defense industry and the effectiveness of the model. Importantly, such contracts help to keep Ukrainian defense companies busy, which currently use only about 55% of their production capacity.
At the same time, Ukraine continues to cooperate within other initiatives, such as the PURL program, which already includes 17 NATO countries with total contributions of $2.8 billion.
These programs provide the Ukrainian army with modern weapons — air defense systems, GMLRS rockets, artillery ammunition, and FPV drones — strengthening the country's defense capabilities and demonstrating the effectiveness of combining international support and national production.
As The Gaze reported earlier, a delegation from the Swedish Armed Forces, led by Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström, confirmed its readiness to continue participating in the “Danish model” of arms procurement for Ukraine.
