The EU : Red Lines Must Be Maintained in Negotiations
In order to ensure that aggression is not rewarded.
The Gaze reports on it according to Ukrinform.
This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas at a meeting of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
"We see agreements and negotiations between Ukraine and the United States, and then between the United States and Russia. We clearly see that there is not much pressure on Russia, and that is why we continue to work on this issue, because we cannot find ourselves in a situation where a peace agreement actually rewards aggression, because then we will see more of such aggression," Kallas said.
She stressed that the EU has red lines: “Respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation and the return of Ukrainian children.”
The High Representative emphasized the importance of continuing to raise these issues and putting pressure on Russia.
“And this is where the reparations loan comes into play. Next week we will have a European Council meeting, and hopefully we will reach an agreement. We have not reached it yet, but the work is ongoing,” Kallas said.
In her opinion, the adoption of the reparations loan could “change the rules of the game in many ways.”
“First, it will make Russia understand that it cannot hold out longer than we can. It will also make Ukraine understand that we are helping them, and it is also a signal that they cannot remain unaccountable for the damage they have caused,” said the top EU diplomat.
