Trump Claims He Spoke with Putin by Phone About Ending Russia’s War in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump said he had a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the New York Post, citing an exclusive interview on board the presidential plane on Friday.
Trump said that he had tried to find ways to end the Russian-Ukrainian war with Putin over the phone.
Journalists asked Trump how many times he had spoken to Putin, and he replied: ‘I'd rather not say’.
The US president reiterated his long-standing thesis that if he had been president in 2022, a full-scale war ‘would never have started’. He also stressed that he has ‘always had a good relationship with Putin’.
Trump stressed that he has a ‘specific plan’ to end the war.
‘I hope it will be quick. People are dying every day. This war in Ukraine is so terrible. I want to end the damn thing,’ Trump said.
Recently, Trump suggested the possibility of meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ‘next week’.
Zelenskyy, for his part, noted that such a meeting should precede the determination of the format of possible negotiations with Russia.
As The Gaze previously reported, US President Donald Trump said he was interested in concluding an arms deal with Ukraine in exchange for rare earth minerals.
