Ukraine Presents Over 300 Books at Frankfurt Book Fair
The Ukrainian stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair presented more than 300 books from 31 publishers. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
The national stand is organised by the Ukrainian Book Institute, Goethe-Institut in Ukraine, Mystetskyi Arsenal and the Ukrainian Institute.
This year's focus theme for Ukraine is ‘Reclaiming the Voice’, which emphasises the importance of restoring the national voice on the global stage.
The national stand was opened by Maria Shubchyk, co-curator of the Ukrainian programme at Goethe Institut Ukraine, Olena Odynoka, deputy director of the Ukrainian Book Institute for international cooperation, and Claudia Roth, German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, State Minister.
The opening of the Ukrainian stand was also attended by Jürgen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Stefan Rüssel, Commissioner for Cultural Policy at the German Federal Foreign Office, Peter Kraus von Clef, Director of the German Publishers' Association, and Johannes Ebert, Head of the Goethe Institute.
In their speeches, the German representatives condemned Russian aggression and attempts to destroy Ukrainian culture.
The Ukrainian programme will include five days of discussions, presentations and public interviews in which participants will talk about the art created by the war.
They will also talk about Ukrainian writers who died and the books that captured their voices. The programme aims to showcase literature that reflects on Ukraine's wartime present in a quick and sharp way.
According to the programme's co-curator, Maria Shubchyk, ‘we want a wide European audience to discover even more authors and public figures who demonstrate courage, resilience and endurance every day.’
