The largest 200 MW energy storage complex in Ukraine has begun operating, ensuring the country's energy stability and supporting renewable energy sources.

The Gaze reports this, referring to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

This project was implemented by Ukrainian private energy firm DTEK in partnership with American company Fluence Energy BV.

The complex consists of six facilities in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, built in a record short time – just one year. Investments in the project amounted to €125 million, and the total capacity of the system allows it to store 400 MWh of electricity, which is enough to provide electricity to 600,000 homes for two hours.

Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk emphasized the importance of the complex's launch for Ukraine's energy security.

“Every time the enemy tries to destroy our infrastructure, it only accelerates our movement into the future. The launch of this complex is a practical step towards strengthening Ukraine's energy security,” the minister stressed.

The new capacity is expected to increase the reliability and flexibility of the power system, reduce the risk of emergency outages, and promote the development of renewable energy and decentralization of the power grid.

The complex provides additional opportunities for balancing the power system and regulating frequency, which is particularly relevant given the growing share of renewable sources and the ongoing challenges of war. The opening of the facility is a practical step in the implementation of the National Renewable Energy Action Plan until 2030 and confirms Ukraine's commitment to building a modern, sustainable, and green energy sector.

DTEK CEO Maksym Tymchenko called the launch of the complex a historic step for the Ukrainian power system and emphasized the key role of the American company Fluence in introducing advanced technologies to improve the reliability and sustainability of the power system.

In turn, Fluence CEO Julian Nebreda noted the importance of international cooperation, which contributes to energy security and the development of a modern energy system in Ukraine.

"We are honored to be working with DTEK on this landmark energy storage project. The extraordinary determination and efficiency demonstrated by DTEK in implementing this project is truly inspiring... Together, we are contributing to the creation of a stronger, more sustainable, and decentralized energy system that will ensure Ukraine's long-term stability," he commented.
