In September 2022 EU Parliament declared that Hungary is no longer a functional democracy because the government under Prime Minister Victor Orban has been allegedly deliberately undermining democracy, fundamental rights, and the rule of law for over a decade. The representatives of the majority in the EU Parliament demand to halt the unblocking of funds until the reforms by the Hungarian government are actually implemented and are also verifiable.
