Cold Steel Is Banned at Christmas Markets in Germany, Violators Will Be Fined €10,000
The Christmas market season is starting in Germany and a nationwide ban on edged weapons, which provides for a €10,000 fine, is coming into effect.
This was reported by Bild.
Interior Minister Nancy Feather called for ‘zero-tolerance’ control and reminded of the €10,000 fine in all federal states for appearing at fairs with cold steel.
‘With the security package, we have ensured that knives are no longer allowed at Christmas markets. This provides more security for all visitors,’ Feather said.
As reported by The Gaze, this year Germany passed a law prohibiting the carrying of cold steel weapons to mass celebrations, intercity public transport, etc. An administrative offence will be punishable by a fine of up to €10,000 and possible imprisonment for up to three years.
Germany already has a ban on the purchase and possession of certain knives, including so-called butterfly knives. Violation of the ban is punishable by up to 3 years' imprisonment. Folding knives with a blade that can be opened with one hand and knives with a blade length of more than 12 centimetres may not be taken outside your own home, with an exception for store-bought kitchen knives that are transported in their packaging.
