Estonia to launch a state application based on the Ukrainian Diia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is developing cooperation with Estonia in the field of digital solutions. In particular, based on the Ukrainian application Diia, an analogue application for providing government services will be created in Estonia.
"Previously, Ukrainians took an example from Estonia in the development of digital solutions. And now we have reached a level where a state application will be created in Estonia based on our Ukrainian Diia. What is convenient and useful for millions of Ukrainians will obviously be convenient and useful for other nations. And this is another component of our leadership, Ukrainian leadership," said Zelensky.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has been cooperating with the Estonian government for over three years. In September 2022, a pilot project of the Estonian state application called mRiik was launched, which is discussed in detail on the Estonian government resource e-Estonia.
On June 3, 2023, the Ministry of Digital Transformation team met with President of Estonia Alar Karis and Minister of Economy Tõnis Riisalo to evaluate the results of the pilot project.
"At the start, Estonia shared the digital solution X-road, a data exchange technology. This is how 'Trembita' appeared, a system that connects registries and information systems and implements mechanisms for secure data exchange. Based on Trembita, Diia was developed, and now an Estonian application for providing government services is being launched based on Diia," said Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology, after the meeting. "In Estonia, the mobile-first approach is almost not implemented. We are helping our friends by scaling Diia. Ukraine and Estonia are an ideal example of synergy. We continue to develop the most convenient digital states together," added the Ukrainian official.
Currently, Ukraine is negotiating the export of the Diia platform to up to 10 countries, including Colombia and Zambia. Previously, Mykhailo Fedorov mentioned that despite the war, Ukraine continues to build a powerful digital country and launch new services for citizens and businesses.
According to his estimates, currently in Ukraine, 19 million users use Diia and have access to over 30 digital government services.
