EU Allocates Special Grant of €100 million to Ukraine to Restore Power System after Russian Missile Attacks
The European Commission has authorised Germany's KfW to allocate EUR 100 million to Ukrenergo under the EU's special budget programme Ukraine Investment Facility.
This was reported by the press service of Ukrenergo.
The allocated funds will be used to modernise high-voltage substations in the western regions of Ukraine and build interconnectors connecting Ukraine with the power system of continental Europe.
In addition, the equipment at high-voltage substations destroyed or damaged by Russian shelling will be repaired and restored, and new equipment will be purchased and delivered.
Measures will be taken to strengthen the physical protection of Ukrenergo's substations.
This grant is the second phase of the targeted programme ‘Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Ukraine's Electricity Transmission Infrastructure’.
On 11 June, during the Berlin Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine, Ukrenergo signed an agreement with KfW on the first phase of the programme worth EUR 15 million.
Earlier, Estonia decided to donate equipment from Narva power plants to Ukraine. And Lithuanian company Ignitis Gamyba is transferring equipment from the third Vilnius thermal power plant to Ukraine.
