EU Changes Border Crossing Rules - Without Passport Stamps
From 10 November, a new IT system EES (Entry-Exit System) will start operating in the European Union.
This was reported by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The new system will automatically record the entry and exit of all foreigners to the Schengen area. The system will capture fingerprints and face photos of people crossing the border once and store them for three years: passport stamps will no longer be required.
Registration will take place automatically through self-service terminals.
If a person refuses to provide biometric data at the border, they will be denied entry or exit.
Then, at each subsequent border crossing, you will need to scan your passport at a self-service terminal.
This system is being introduced to simplify border crossing, enhance security with biometric documents, and prevent the use of fake documents. It should also help combat illegal migration.
The government stressed that the new border crossing rules do not mean the cancellation of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians.
