EU Commission, Slovak Government Agree to Jointly Seek Solution to Gas Situation
European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen, and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico held a bilateral meeting to discuss the consequences of Ukraine halting the transit of Russian gas.
The European Commission announced this on its website.
After the meeting, they issued the following joint statement: ‘We had a good and open discussion on the energy situation and wider implications of the end of the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine. We will continue discussing closely these issues, at both political and technical level, between Slovakia and the European Commission.’
The parties agreed to establish a high-level working group that will further analyse the situation, identify potential options based on a joint assessment, and explore how the EU can assist.
