European Parliament Passes Resolution Urging Support for Ukraine with Arms until Victory

The European Parliament has passed a resolution urging EU countries to provide Ukraine with necessary armaments until it achieves victory. 451 deputies voted in favour of this document, 46 voted against, and 49 abstained. The relevant announcement is posted on the European Parliament's website.

In the resolution text, MEPs emphasize the importance of Ukraine's victory in the war, as any other outcome could have serious consequences for European and global security, encouraging authoritarian leaders to use force to achieve their goals.

Parliamentarians note that to achieve Ukraine's victory, it is necessary to avoid restrictions on military assistance and provide the country with all the resources to regain control over occupied territories.

The European Parliament also calls for increased investment in the European defence sector and accelerated production of weapons to provide Ukraine with necessary resources. Among them are long-range missiles, artillery, drones, and other means.

Deputies call on EU and NATO countries to allocate at least 0.25% of their GDP annually to military support for Ukraine. The resolution also states the need to prioritize arms supplies from European manufacturers to Ukraine over contracts with third countries.

Parliamentarians urge the US House of Representatives to pass a bill on military aid to Ukraine and to establish a legal mechanism for using Russian assets frozen in the EU for the country's reconstruction and assistance to war victims.

The European Parliament also calls for maintaining and expanding sanctions against Russia and Belarus, including banning the import of uranium, metallurgical products, and other goods. It also condemns individuals, countries, and companies that evade these sanctions.

As reported by The Gaze, the European Union will use funds obtained from Russian financial assets stored in European banking institutions for collective procurement of weapons for Ukraine. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during hearings in the European Parliament.

According to her, member states are pursuing a more coordinated policy on joint procurement of weapons and ammunition. The European Defence Fund invests in the development of modern defence capabilities in key areas such as naval and land forces, air combat, early warning systems in space-based platforms, cyber defence capabilities development, and more.
