Today, on Friday, 27 December, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the dissolution of the country's lower house of parliament in response to a request from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and set a new date for the Bundestag elections for 23 February. This was reported by DW.
‘I have decided to dissolve the 20th convocation of the German Bundestag to set a date for early elections on 23 February,’ German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in his speech and added that “political stability in Germany is a valuable asset,” he said.
Earlier, on 11 December, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sent a motion of confidence in his government to the Bundestag due to the failure to pass the budget for the next year and the dismissal of a relevant minister, which led to the collapse of the ruling coalition. And on 16 December, the German parliament expressed no confidence in Olaf Scholz and his government.
