The German concern Rheinmetall has received an order to supply 20 more Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, which will be financed by the German government. This is stated on the company's website.
The delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2025.
The specific value of the contract was not disclosed, but it was noted that it is worth tens of millions of euros.
In the 1A3 version, the Marder is equipped with an additional laser rangefinder for efficient and accurate target engagement. The first 20 combat vehicles of this type were delivered by the concern at the request of the German government in March 2023.
On 20 November, the German government announced a new military aid package for Ukraine.
The German government noted that about €5 billion (2023) and about €1.6 billion (2022) had already been spent on military aid to Ukraine. Another 2.9 billion euros were allocated in the first two years of the war for supplies that will be delivered only in 2025-2028.
Earlier, during his visit to Kyiv, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the sixth IRIS-T system, Patriot launchers and Gepard anti-aircraft tanks would be among the weapons that Germany would hand over to Ukraine in December.
