Germany to Allocate Additional €11.5 Million to the Ukraine-NATO Trust Fund
The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, has announced the allocation of €11.5 million to the Ukraine-NATO Trust Fund.
This was reported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The Ukraine-NATO Council will be a driving force that brings Ukraine closer to NATO. Alliance standards, force and resource planning, and military reform are central to this process. Germany is making an additional contribution of €11.5 million to the Ukraine-NATO Trust Fund," emphasized Baerbock.
The German minister also noted that the Western community must work to continue strengthening the "winter protective shield for Ukraine" against the threat of Russian terrorist attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
It is worth mentioning that today, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of foreign ministers of the Alliance took place in Brussels.
Key topics of the meeting included: increasing the production of weapons and ammunition, the situation on the front line of the Russian war in Ukraine, and discussions on the clear steps Ukraine should take on its path to NATO membership.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented the adapted Annual National Program for the implementation of further steps necessary for NATO accession. Among them are energy security, innovation, and enhanced cooperation.
"We also discussed Ukraine’s path to membership. Allies agree that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. We have now provided recommendations on Ukraine’s priority reforms. Including the fight against corruption, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting human rights and minority rights," said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
According to the Secretary-General, NATO is already transforming the comprehensive NATO assistance package into a multi-year support program. This step will help Ukraine transition from Soviet-era weapons to NATO equipment and high standards in the future.
It is worth reminding that the Ukraine-NATO Council was established at the NATO Summit in Vilnius in 2023. The main task of the Council is to promote political dialogue, interaction, and cooperation between Ukraine and the North Atlantic Alliance.
