July Marks Deadliest Month for Ukraine Civilians in Over Three Years – U.N.

Civilian casualties in Ukraine surged to their highest monthly level in more than three years in July, driven largely by intensified Russian aerial bomb attacks.
The Gaze writes about it, referring to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) report.
According to the Mission, at least 1,674 civilians were killed or injured during the month – 286 fatalities and 1,388 wounded, marking a 22.5% increase compared to July 2024 and setting the highest monthly toll since May 2022.
The sharpest rise was linked to the use of air-dropped bombs by Russian forces, which caused 276 casualties in July (67 killed, 209 injured), more than double the 114 casualties recorded in June from similar weapons.
While the number of victims from long-range missile strikes and loitering munitions fell by about 20% compared to June, these weapons still accounted for nearly 40% of all civilian casualties, with major cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv among the hardest hit.
Short-range drones were responsible for another 24% of the total, killing 64 and injuring 337.
The UN Mission also recalled that the combined missile-and-drone assault on the night of June 16–17 was likely the deadliest strike on Kyiv in almost a year.
UN officials warned that the data highlights the continuing and severe threat to civilians across Ukraine, despite fluctuations in the intensity of certain types of attacks.
