Germany Pledges $500 Million to NATO Initiative Supplying U.S. Weapons to Ukraine

Germany will contribute $500 million to a NATO program designed to deliver critical U.S.-made weapons to Ukraine.
The Gaze reports this, referring to an announcement made by the Alliance.
The funding will support the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, launched by the United States and NATO to channel contributions from member states into the procurement and delivery of American military equipment for Ukraine’s defense.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed Berlin’s decision, noting that Germany remains the leading European provider of military assistance to Ukraine.
“Today’s announcement further underlines its commitment to help the Ukrainian people defend their freedom and sovereignty,” the Secretary General added.
The pledge was made during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Berlin, coinciding with high-level talks between European and U.S. leaders ahead of a planned August 15 meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Under the PURL framework, other allies have also committed significant support. The Netherlands has prepared a $500 million package including components and missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will jointly provide around $500 million, while Latvia has pledged at least $2 million, with the final amount still under discussion.
