Resonance Consultancy has published the full ranking of the top 100 European cities for 2023. Various factors were taken into account during the compilation, including walkability, landmarks, diversity, experience, employment level, and even Instagram hashtags.
The methodology assesses each qualifying city based on six pillars of urban fairness: Place, Product, Programming, People, Prosperity, and Promotion.
Place. The quality of a city's natural and man-made environments, including subcategories like 'Weather', 'Safety', 'Surroundings & Landmarks', and 'Outdoors'.
Product. The city's key institutions, landmarks, and infrastructure, including airport connectivity, attractions, museums, university rankings, convention centre, and professional sports teams subcategories.
Programming. The art, culture, entertainment, and culinary scene of the city, including Shopping, Culture, Restaurants, and Nightlife subcategories.
People. The city's immigration level and diversity, including Foreign-born and Education Level subcategories.
Prosperity. The employment and headquarters of companies in the city, including Fortune 500 Companies and Household Income subcategories, as well as employment level and income equality for the ranking of best cities.
Promotion. The number of stories, mentions, and recommendations that are spread online about the city, including Google Search Results, Google Trends, Facebook Check-ins, Instagram Hashtags, and TripAdvisor Reviews subcategories.
The performance of the top 100 cities in this report is summarised on special charts. The outcome is a ranking that can assist important decision-making for cities and those who love them.
So, returning to the top of the list this year is... London! The UK capital, named the 'capital of capitals' by Resonance Consultancy, is highlighted in the report due to its recently expanded underground network and the opening of famous restaurants, as well as attracting the attention of such tech giants as TikTok and Instagram.
Next up is Paris, which earned approval for its new cycle network and ambitions to become a user-friendly city, along with its impressive railway infrastructure.
Amsterdam takes the third spot, renowned for its housing projects, including a fully wooden neighbourhood that's currently underway.
When it comes to entire countries, Switzerland leads the pack with three cities in the top ten.
