Macron Calls Zelenskyy After Putin Conversation

French President Emmanuel Macron called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Suspilne.
According to the publication's source, the conversation between Macron and Zelenskyy was constructive.
The French president briefed his Ukrainian counterpart on the details of his conversation with Putin.
The details of the conversation were not disclosed.
As The Gaze reported earlier, earlier that day, Macron had a two-hour telephone conversation with Putin for the first time since 2022. The French president called on the Russian president to agree to an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and engage in peace negotiations.
They also discussed the situation in the Middle East and Russia's war against Ukraine.
Back in 2022, Macron called on Putin to ‘return to the negotiating table’ and promised to supply Ukraine with air defence systems amid a new large-scale Russian bombing campaign.
The French president then accused his Russian counterpart of dragging Europe into the war and called on him to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity.
In December 2022, Macron supported an open channel of dialogue with Putin, hoping that both sides — Russia and Ukraine — would return to negotiations when the situation allowed.
In February 2025, at a press conference in Washington, Macron stated that he had severed ties with Putin ‘after the events in Bucha and the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation.’
