Hotel Made of Ice Has Opened in Europe
The Swedish Icehotel, constructed from snow and ice from the Torne River in Lapland, has opened its doors to tourists. However, don't wait too long, as this hotel, entirely made of snow and ice, will melt by springtime.
In the interim, this hotel can be confidently added to your winter holiday plans. After visiting Santa Claus's post office and experiencing dazzling Christmas lights, you can spend a night in a genuine ice palace, quite literally.
The original Icehotel has returned for its 34th incarnation in Jukkasjärvi, Swedish Lapland, opening last week. This fantastical hotel comprises 15 unique icy rooms, a large hall for special events, and a main hall designed by 32 artists and constructed by the Icehotel's building team and ice production.
Within the icy palace, there's a cinema, chalets, three restaurants, and, of course, an Icebar. This year's main themes include folklore, nature, and cultural traditions.
The design by the British duo Lisa Lindqvist and Kate Manro, 'Light Collectors,' celebrates pagan costumes of the winter solstice. The ice sculptures portray dessert landscapes, fairies, trolls, and even a goddess of chocolate and cocoa ceremonies.
The hotel ensures a chilly experience in rooms at -5 degrees Celsius. So, you could be one of the lucky few to witness this new fairytale rendition of the Icehotel in its dazzling form.
For fans of classic warm rooms, there are also several traditional rooms available. Here, you can learn about the working mechanism and the cost of a night's stay.
