On Sunday, Poland's new Prime Minister Donald Tusk was due to meet in Tallinn with the heads of government of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, but the meeting was cancelled due to Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas's COVID-19 infection.

The head of the Estonian government announced the cancellation and her illness on Twitter (X).

The topic of Tusk's talks with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrid Šimonite, Latvian Prime Minister Evіka Silina, and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was to be "security, the situation in Ukraine, and current issues on the EU agenda," the Polish prime minister's office said.

However, the meeting between Tusk and the Baltic leaders, as well as the trilateral meeting of Baltic heads of government scheduled for Sunday in Estonia, were cancelled after Kaja Kallas tested positive for coronavirus.

It was to be the new Polish prime minister's next trip abroad - Donald Tusk had previously been in Brussels to attend the European Council summit.

As The Gaze previously reported, on 13 December, Donald Tusk's government was sworn in at the Presidential Palace. Thus, the new government of the Republic of Poland officially took office.

Before taking the oath, journalists asked Tusk about his expectations for cooperation with President Duda, who represents the Law and Justice party, which lost power. Tusk responded optimistically, stressing the importance of working in Poland's interests, despite differences in paths and experience.

In turn, Andrzej Duda said he would not veto "anything that contributes to the welfare of the Republic of Poland".

The Law and Justice party lost power in Poland after eight years of its representatives heading the country's government.

Currently, the coalition led by Tusk has a majority in the Sejm, which includes the parties that took second, third and fourth place in the elections: "Civic Coalition, Third Way, and Left, respectively.

Almost immediately after taking the oath of office, Tusk flew to Brussels to attend the EU summit. On the eve of the EU summit, Tusk had his first telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
