The chairmen of the foreign affairs committees of the European parliaments have issued a joint statement calling on US President Donald Trump and the US Congress to ‘demonstrate true leadership’ in confronting Russia.

The Gaze reports on this with reference to European Pravda.

The document was signed by seven heads of the Foreign Affairs Committee, including the chairman of the Ukrainian committee, Oleksandr Merezhko. The signatories also include the chairmen of the foreign affairs committees of France, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and the United Kingdom, who were later joined by their colleague from the Czech Republic.

‘Against the backdrop of recent developments related to the negotiation process and Russian attacks on civilians in Ukraine, the chairmen of the foreign affairs committees of a number of European parliaments issued a joint statement calling a spade a spade and addressing President Trump and the US Congress,’ Merezhko said.

The signatories called for an end to the ‘policy of appeasement’ and instead for a strong stance against Russia's terrorist regime.

They called on European countries to immediately confiscate Russia's frozen assets and redirect them to support Ukraine.

‘There can be no compromises and no external pressure on Ukraine regarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity,’ they said in a statement.

They also called on the United States and other NATO members to accept Ukraine into NATO without delay, and on EU member states to speed up the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

‘We must not repeat the mistakes of Munich in 1938. Negotiations with the war criminal Putin are obviously futile; his main goal is to undermine and humiliate our ally, the United States,’ the statement said.

As The Gaze reported earlier, on 17 April, US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff presented a proposal to end the Russian-Ukrainian war to European officials in Paris, which, among other things, includes US recognition of Moscow's control over a number of Ukrainian occupied territories and the lifting of Western sanctions against Russia.
