Poland Deploys Norwegian NASAMS Air Defence Systems to Protect Logistics Hub
Norwegian Air defence systems NASAMS have been deployed and are ready to protect the logistics centre in Rzeszów, Poland. This was stated by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, according to the Main Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
The deployment of NASAMS air defence systems to Poland, as well as F-35 aircraft to support the defence of Polish airspace, was announced in early December by Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
As announced at the time, 100 Norwegian soldiers stationed in Rzeszow will also arrive in Poland, along with fighter jets and anti-aircraft systems. Their task will be to support the forces present there in overseeing the safe transport of equipment that will then go to Ukraine through the hub in Rzeszow.
However, the deployment of NASAMS to Poland was delayed by an unexpected obstacle: the ship Finlandia Seaways, rented by the Norwegian military to transport the equipment to Poland, ran aground in the Norwegian port of Stavanger.
Recently, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence announced that the systems had arrived in Rzeszow and were ready for use. As noted, the Norwegian equipment is included in NATO's integrated air defence system.
