Russian cyber-attack on Switzerland
For three consecutive days, since Monday, June 12, Switzerland has been subjected to a series of powerful cyberattacks by Russian cybercriminals making attempts to disable some of the country's government websites, including the website of Geneva Airport.
This was reported by the National Cyber Security Center of Switzerland NCSC
The Russian cyber-criminal organization NoName claimed responsibility for the DDoS attack on government websites, including the website of the Swiss Parliament and Federal Administration.
According to the NCSC, the attacks were "extremely intense" and warned users that some government websites may not be available.
The NoName group stated that it attacked Switzerland in response to the adoption of another package of EU sanctions against Russia. The sanctions were imposed on Russia in order to limit its ability to continue its bloody, invasive, unprovoked war on the territory of Ukraine.
On Tuesday, NoName also attacked the website of Geneva Airport, which is considered one of the key logistics centers for the the diplomats and officials.
"The website of the Geneva International Airport did not resist our attack," the hacker group said, posting an image of a bear flaunting its claws.
Earlier, the Swiss parliament authorized the re-export of Swiss-made weapons to third countries, such as Ukraine.
The law provides for the transfer of weapons that were purchased at least 5 years ago. And the country to which the weapons are re-exported must share similar values with Switzerland and have comparable export controls.
To recap, Switzerland is not the first European country to suffer Russian cyberattacks. Earlier this month, British Airways, Boots, and the BBC were hit by the Russian Clop organization. Back then, the attackers claimed to have stolen the data of about 100,000 thousand employees of the affected companies.
Earlier, Lithuanian government organizations and a number of Lithuanian companies such as Avia Solutions Group (ASG) reported massive DDoS attacks organized by Russian hackers on their offices not only in Lithuania but also in other European countries.
