Ukraine expects a clearer outline of the architecture of international security guarantees within the next 7–10 days, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following talks in Washington.

The Gaze reports this, referring to Ukrinform.

Speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv aims to secure an agreement on a framework similar in concept to NATO’s Article 5.

He said U.S. President Donald Trump initially proposed a trilateral meeting with Russia through bilateral channels but ultimately agreed that efforts should remain focused on building the guarantees structure.

Zelenskyy stressed that the “coalition of the willing,” currently around 30 nations, including Japan and Australia, may contribute in different ways: some by deploying troops, others by providing air defenses or carrying out air patrols, and some only by offering financial support due to constitutional neutrality.

“What matters is that these countries are ready. We do not know what exactly they will be ready for, but it is important that they exist. A little time – and there will be an approximate understanding,” Zelenskyy said.

He also dismissed the prospect of China joining as a guarantor, arguing that Beijing had neither helped stop the war nor responded when Russia annexed Crimea, and had instead aided Moscow by opening its drone market.

Separately, Zelenskyy welcomed U.S. readiness to take part in the guarantees, calling it a decisive signal. “Without America, there was uncertainty among our European colleagues. Now we have a positive signal from President Trump and his team, and this opens the way for hesitant countries to confirm their commitments,” Zelenskyy said.

As an example, he cited Turkey, which indicated it could take responsibility for security in the Black Sea, either alone or in partnership, after Washington’s announcement.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s immediate needs remain weapons and financial support for its armed forces, noting that wider international participation could help deliver both.

As The Gaze reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump has tasked Secretary of State Marco Rubio with spearheading negotiations with European leaders on proposed security guarantees for Ukraine.
