Ukraine Urges Stronger Air Defenses at Emergency NATO Council Meeting
Ukraine has called on NATO allies to urgently step up support for its air defense, expand investment in its defense industry, and increase pressure on Russia following the latest wave of large-scale missile and drone attacks.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement by Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry.
The appeal came during an extraordinary meeting of the Ukraine–NATO Council’s Political Committee, convened at Kyiv’s request in response to the strikes.
Deputy Defense Minister Serhii Boiev and Deputy Interior Minister Oleksii Serhieiev briefed allies on the current security situation, Russia’s evolving tactics, and its likely next steps.
They also outlined the human and material toll of the recent bombardments, including casualties and infrastructure destruction.
“The Ukrainian side called on NATO member states to provide the assistance Ukraine needs to strengthen its air defense, in particular Patriot systems and missiles for them. The need for long-range missiles was also emphasized,” the statement reads.
Ukrainian officials also pressed allies to scale up investment in the country’s defense industry, particularly in drone production.
According to the Foreign Ministry, NATO representatives strongly condemned Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities, civilian infrastructure, and citizens, stressing that such actions show Moscow has no genuine interest in peace.
Allies reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting Ukraine and to work toward reliable and timely deliveries of the weapons Kyiv requires.
In addition, with winter approaching, the allies emphasized the need to protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and pledged targeted assistance to safeguard critical facilities during the heating season.
