Zelenskyy and Trump Exchange Symbolic Gifts During White House Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented U.S. President Donald Trump with a golf club during his visit to Washington, while in return receiving a set of symbolic keys to the White House.

The golf club was handed to Zelenskyy by Junior Sergeant Kostiantyn Kartavtsev, a Ukrainian soldier who lost a leg in the early months of Russia’s full-scale invasion while saving his comrades. 

Golf has since become an important part of his rehabilitation, helping him regain both physical and emotional balance. Zelenskyy shared a video message from Kartavtsev urging the United States to support Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace.

Trump accepted the gift and recorded a message of thanks to the Ukrainian serviceman. He then presented Zelenskyy with a set of symbolic keys to the White House.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Zelenskyy said Trump later phoned Russian President Vladimir Putin following a joint coordination meeting with U.S., European, EU, and NATO leaders. 

Trump proposed holding a trilateral summit between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. According to Zelenskyy, Moscow responded by suggesting an initial bilateral meeting with Ukraine, followed by a trilateral format with U.S. participation.

“We are prepared for any format at the level of leaders, because only at that level can the most complex and painful issues be resolved,” Zelenskyy told journalists, adding that European leaders supported Ukraine’s position.
