Zelenskyy Demands Sanctions After Russia Launches Nearly 600 Drones and Missiles

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the international community to impose sweeping new sanctions on Russia after Moscow unleashed massive combined strikes, firing nearly 540 drones, eight ballistic missiles and 37 other rockets across Ukraine overnight.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Zelenskyy’s post on social media.
Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted the majority of the projectiles, but impacts were reported in at least 14 regions, including Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Rivne, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi and Chernihiv regions.
Fires broke out in several locations as residential buildings and businesses were hit.
In Zaporizhzhia, emergency services responded to a strike on a five-story apartment block. Local authorities confirmed one fatality and dozens of injuries, including children. As of Saturday morning, the number of wounded in the city had risen to 28.
Zelenskyy accused Moscow of exploiting the period earmarked for preparing a potential leaders’ summit to instead stage fresh mass attacks.
He urged allies to respond decisively with banking and energy sanctions, as well as tariffs targeting companies and countries financing Russia’s war machine.
“We saw the world’s reaction to the previous attack. But Russia has shown again that it does not care about words. The only way to reopen a window for diplomacy is through real actions: strict tariffs, effective sanctions, and steps that cut off the Kremlin’s financial lifelines. This war will not end with statements – it will end with decisive measures,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Ukraine’s air force reported that its air defense units had destroyed 510 drones and 38 missiles during the overnight assault.
