Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed the importance of European unity in the pursuit of a lasting peace, following talks with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia alone bears the responsibility to halt its aggression and commit to meaningful negotiations. “This is not just a war against Ukraine – it is a war in Europe and against Europe,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader expressed appreciation for continued support from international allies and underlined that decisions about ending the war and securing future peace affect the entire continent.

“We are planning further consultations across Europe,” Zelenskyy noted, signaling that Kyiv intends to broaden diplomatic engagement with EU partners.

The statement came shortly after in-depth talks between Ukrainian security officials and US envoy Steve Witkoff, who recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Zelenskyy described the discussion as productive and detailed, marking another step in the high-stakes diplomacy currently unfolding between Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow.

“We are committed to working seriously to stop the bloodshed and achieve a just peace,” he stated, adding that follow-up talks are scheduled for the coming days.

Meanwhile, European leaders are also stepping up their involvement. French President Emmanuel Macron, following a “long conversation” with Zelenskyy and other EU heads of state, reiterated France’s full support for Ukraine and the need for a ceasefire that ensures both Ukrainian sovereignty and continental security.

“I reaffirmed France’s commitment to a lasting solution that respects Ukraine’s legitimate rights and protects European stability. We continue to advocate for an honorable peace,” Macron wrote on social media platform X.
