A Person Killed, Over 20 UNESCO Monuments Damaged in Ukrainian City of Odesa Due to Russian Massive Attack
A woman was killed in the Ukrainian port city of Odesa as a result of a Russian attack on the evening of 14 November, and missiles damaged cultural heritage sites under UNESCO protection.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
During the massive combined strike, Russian missiles damaged cultural heritage sites located within the endangered World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Odesa and its buffer zone.
More than two dozen monuments of architecture, urban planning and local history were damaged.
Among the damaged monuments are the building of the Institute of Technology, the building of the Richelieu Lyceum and the residential building where the famous physicist Bronislaw Verigo lived.
Prosecutors and other law enforcement officials are documenting the consequences of the Russian strike.
The ministry reminded that on 25 January, at the 18th extraordinary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the Historic Centre of the Port City of Odesa was inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger to preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage. The decision of this year's 46th meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee confirmed the status of the site on the list.
