Battle of Football Titans: England and Spain to Face Off in Euro 2024 Final
The UEFA EURO 2024 finalists have now been confirmed. England reached the final of Euro 2024 after Ollie Watkins' Aston Villa defeated the Netherlands 2-1 the day before. England were not at their best in their free-flowing form in Group C, but still topped their section and remain unbeaten.
Spain was in great form in Germany, winning all six games, scoring 13 goals and conceding only three times. Winger Lamine Yamal made history by becoming the youngest player ever to play at a EURO against Croatia and then provided an assist as Spain showed their mettle to beat the hosts in extra time in the quarter-finals. An even more stunning goal-scoring feat came in the semi-finals, when his superb equaliser turned the tie around. Spain will now become the first team to win four UEFA EURO titles and triumph in Germany.
Both teams started positively, but the Netherlands took the lead early on when Declan Rice lost the ball and Xavi Simons fell down to score a great finish from the edge of the box.
However, England regained the lead with Kobbie Mainoo and Phil Foden up front and in the dying seconds, Watkins received the ball and fired past the goalkeeper from an incredibly tight angle.
It was truly an unforgettable evening, as even on stage at the O2 Arena in London yesterday, The Killers paused their show to broadcast the final minutes of England's victory before singing their hit Mr Brightside.
Numerous fans shared this footage on social media as the lights were dimmed, the match commentary was played over the speakers, and the final moments of the game were projected on a screen behind the band.
After the final whistle, red and white streamers flew into the air from the stage and the band began to perform their iconic song, which is the third best-selling song of all time in the UK
