Borrell Calls for Increased Military Support for Ukraine after Russia's Terrorist Attack on Kostyantynivka, Killing 14, Including 2 Children
Ukraine urgently needs more military support. This was stated by the EU's Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell, who responded to the Russian terrorist attack on a shopping centre in the Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka on the afternoon of 9 August, which killed at least 14 people, including 2 children, and wounded 43.
"We support accountability for this and other Russian war crimes. Ukraine urgently needs more military support to protect its cities, civilians and infrastructure," Borrell said.
As of the morning of 10 August 2024, the bodies of 2 dead children have been identified in Kostiantynivka, Ukraine - girls aged 9 and 11. Forensic examinations are ongoing to identify 6 more people, including, possibly, 1 child, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported.
Eight of the 14 people killed in the strike on Kostyantynivka remain unidentified.
According to the latest data, the number of people killed as a result of the terrorist shelling of the town of Kostyantynivka by the Russian armed forces is 14, and 43 people were wounded.
As a reminder, on 9 August 2024, at 11:05 a.m., the Russian occupation army launched an air strike on the town of Kostiantynivka in Ukraine, using an X-38 missile. The attack targeted a local shopping centre with food and hardware stores.
The investigation is currently underway. The number of casualties is being established.
Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is underway in the criminal proceedings on the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Prosecutors are taking all possible and appropriate measures to document war crimes committed by representatives of the Russian armed forces.
