British Foreign Secretary Calls on Allies to Increase Arms Production to Help Ukraine
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has called on Western allies to increase arms production to help Ukraine defeat Russia.
This was reported by The Telegraph.
According to the newspaper, at a closed-door meeting, Cameron stressed that NATO is able to support Ukraine longer than Russia hopes. The diplomat also stressed that the total economic power of the Alliance is 30 times greater than that of Russia.
"Two weeks ago I was in Ukraine saying we need to do everything we could to help the Ukrainians repel this appalling aggression by Putin. I'll be building consensus for that view here at Nato," Cameron said before the meeting.
Additionally, the British Foreign Minister urged NATO member countries to work diligently on signing as many long-term international agreements as possible to persuade weapon manufacturers to increase production.
In turn, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, emphasized that this task would require Ukraine's and NATO's defense industries to concentrate efforts to ensure the Ukrainian military continues to receive necessary supplies to overcome Russia.
It's worth noting that approximately 20 French companies and the British giant BAE Systems already have representations in Ukraine. Official agreements for the establishment of a separate branch of the British company in Ukraine were signed this September.
Furthermore, in July, one of the largest German manufacturers of armored vehicles and ammunition, Rheinmetall, announced its intention to establish its own factory in Ukraine.
Recall that a Ukraine-NATO Council meeting took place in Brussels, the first at the level of foreign ministers of bloc member countries. The main topics included increasing weapon and ammunition production, the current situation on Ukrainian fronts, and discussing Ukraine's progress toward NATO membership.
The Ukraine-NATO Council was established at this year's summit of the North Atlantic Bloc held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Council's primary mission is to facilitate political dialogue, interaction, and cooperation between Ukraine and NATO member countries, as Kyiv progresses toward Alliance membership.
