UK Pledges Millions in New Aid for Ukraine at Special Tribunal Meeting in Lviv

At a pivotal Europe Day summit in Lviv, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine, announcing nearly £25 million in new humanitarian aid and backing the establishment of a Special Tribunal to prosecute Russian aggression, The Gaze reports.
Speaking alongside 35 delegations and top EU diplomats, Lammy said:
“Today – and every day – we stand with Ukraine. We stand for a just and lasting peace, for a secure Europe, and for accountability and justice. I have been supportive of a Special Tribunal to prosecute Russia’s leaders for their war of aggression since March 2022, just weeks after Putin’s full-scale invasion. This was a key manifesto commitment and as soon as we came into government, we made it a top priority.”
The newly pledged aid includes:
• £10 million to HAVEN, a UK-based humanitarian group, to help protect and evacuate civilians in frontline areas under Russian attack;
• £5 million to Mercy Corps, aimed at enabling local organizations to provide rapid emergency assistance in response to ongoing conflict;
• £9.4 million to the Ukrainian Red Cross, supporting nationwide emergency response efforts and improving recovery and rehabilitation services, including for injured veterans.
Lammy also emphasized the UK’s broader commitment through the UK–Ukraine 100 Year Partnership, military and diplomatic assistance, and recent humanitarian actions.
“Through our 100 Year Partnership, this government’s Plan for Change and our ongoing military and diplomatic support, the UK’s commitment to Ukraine is stronger than ever,” he added.
The Foreign Secretary’s visit to Ukraine coincides with a milestone in international law—the completion of legal groundwork for a Special Tribunal to hold Russia’s leadership accountable for its war of aggression. The tribunal follows over two years of negotiations involving at least 37 nations.
Lammy underscored the UK’s dual focus on justice and deterrence, noting that alongside its support for the tribunal, Britain is cracking down on Russia’s war financing.
As The Gaze previously reported, on Europe Day, top diplomats gathered in Lviv to express political backing for the establishment of a Special Tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
