Bulgarian company Bulgargaz intends to file a lawsuit against Russian company Gazprom Export demanding compensation of more than USD 200 million for the termination of gas supplies to Bulgaria after the start of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
This was reported by Novinite.
During a briefing at the Ministry of Energy, it became known that Bulgargaz intends to file a lawsuit against Gazprom Export, demanding compensation for losses in the amount of 400 million leva (USD 222 million). This decision is related to the Russian company's termination of gas supplies to Bulgaria in 2022.
Gazprom Export stopped supplying gas to Bulgaria at the end of April 2022, about two months after the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.
Interim Minister Vladimir Malinov also said that the Turkish company Botas had agreed to give Bulgaria an €11 million discount in June.
Due to the unfavourable terms of the existing contract with Botas, Minister Malinov travelled to Turkey in late April for negotiations. The contract in question, signed during Galab Donev's administration, is for 13 years and is valued at more than $2 billion.
In addition, it was reported that 13 companies have expressed interest in purchasing gas through Turkey under the contract with Botas.
