Bulgaria Finally Approves New Government
The Bulgarian parliament has approved the composition of the new government proposed by the largest parliamentary group, GERB. The government will be headed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, according to BNR and Novinite.
The new government was voted in favour by 125 MPs, while 114 voted against.
After the vote, the government members took the oath of office.
The composition of the new cabinet was agreed upon after negotiations that resulted in the signing of an agreement between the GERB-SDP, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the populist party ‘There is such a people’.
The country has been in a political crisis for several years due to the inability of the parliament to form a stable government. As a result, Bulgaria has held seven snap elections in the past four years that have not resulted in a permanent government.
In October 2024, Bulgaria held its seventh general election in three years. The victory was won by the conservative GERB party of former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
