Direct Train Between Hungarian and Ukrainian Capitals Launched for First Time
On 15 December, the Transcarpathia train between Kyiv and Budapest made its maiden voyage. Almost 2,000 tickets have already been sold, the national carrier, Ukrzaliznytsia, reports.
According to the company, the train will cover 1170 kilometres on its way. It will stop in Lviv, Slavske, Mukachevo, Chop, Záhony, Nyíregyháza, Debrecen and Szolnok.
‘In the first two days since the opening of the sale, passengers have bought almost 2,000 tickets for this train,’ the statement said.
It is noted that the most popular among customers have traditionally been the weekends before Christmas and New Year.
‘This train already has a special history due to the length and complexity of its launch. However, joint diplomatic efforts of two ministries and two railways helped to find a solution, and as a result, train No. 9/10 Kyiv-Budapest became the last train in the development of the Hungarian railway timetable,’ commented Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, noted that this international route is an additional opportunity for Ukrainians to return home and travel around the world.
This train will provide convenient connections to flights from one of the largest airports in the region, as well as trains to Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich, Zurich and other European cities.
