Finland Expands Aid to Ukraine by Joining the Maritime Coalition

Previously, the country had joined coalitions in the fields of artillery, armoured vehicles, mine clearance and information technology.
Finnish Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen has decided to participate in the naval coalition led by the United Kingdom and Norway. Its main goal is to support the development of the Ukrainian Navy, according to the press service of the Finnish Ministry of Defence. Currently, 17 countries are members of the coalition.
‘We join capacity-building coalitions only after careful consideration of each case, always ensuring that our contribution is sufficient, effective and truly adds value to strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities,’ Minister Hakkanen said.
According to the ministry, Finland has previously joined coalitions in the fields of artillery, armoured vehicles, demining and information technology. The aim of such international coalitions is to provide long-term support to Ukraine. Together with the Ukrainian side, they plan and manage the development of the future capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
