The British documentary Hell Jumper has won an international Emmy Award in the documentary film category, according to the BBC. The film tells the story of British volunteer Chris Perry, who came to Ukraine to help people in dangerous areas of the front line and died in early 2023 while evacuating people from Soledar.
According to the film's plot, Perry and his friends travelled to Ukraine by car. He joined a group of volunteers helping civilians escape the war zone. He worked as a programmer and enjoyed outdoor activities, explaining his trip to Ukraine as a desire to help ‘those who needed it most.’ Perry saved over 400 people and many abandoned animals.
The BBC's synopsis of the film states: ‘Courage, love and loss. Young people risk their lives on self-funded missions to rescue families in Ukraine's frontline towns. The story is told in their own words and through unique first-person footage.’ Hell Jumper premiered at this year's BAFTA Awards. The film also received two awards at the Prix Italia 2025.
