Dutch Prime Minister Discusses Ongoing Support with Ukrainian President Amid Russian Aggression

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing the ongoing support amidst Russian aggression. Rutte shared the details on his Twitter account, stating, "Just had one of my regular talks with President Zelensky about the current situation in Ukraine and the upcoming winter. The Netherlands stand with the people of Ukraine and support their fight against Russian aggression."
In response, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized discussions with Rutte regarding efforts to preserve unity in Europe and the crucial need for consistent military and financial support for Ukraine. Zelensky expressed gratitude for the recent decision by the Netherlands to provide an additional 2 billion euros to Ukraine in 2024, considering it a positive signal for other partners.
It is known that Mark Rutte will remain in his position as the Prime Minister temporarily until the formation of a new government after the elections on November 22. However, this process may take a considerable amount of time.
In the Dutch elections, the far-right "Party for Freedom" led by Geert Wilders unexpectedly secured victory with a significant lead over opponents. Wilders, who opposes further arms transfers to Ukraine, advocates for the ban on Islam in the country and the Netherlands' exit from the EU.
While the Party for Freedom won 37 out of 150 seats in parliament, or 23.7%, experts note that forming a coalition with its toxic stance will be extremely challenging. If successful, other members of the potential coalition will likely exert a significant influence on the new government's agenda. Overall, it appears more likely that other parties entering parliament will form the coalition, although this process is expected to take a considerable amount of time.
It is worth mentioning that all other parties entering parliament are significantly more moderate than the Party for Freedom and do not support ideas of EU withdrawal or discontinuing aid to Ukraine.
