A shooting at a school in the southern Swedish city of Örebro on the afternoon of 4 February left at least 11 dead, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.
Police believe that the attacker is also among the dead. A 35-year-old man is suspected of the shooting, but he has not yet been identified. According to law enforcement, the attacker acted alone.
According to police spokesman Fredrik Svedemir, it is possible that the death toll could rise, as the wounded remain in hospital with varying degrees of severity.
According to him, the investigation so far ‘does not indicate that the attacker may have acted for ideological reasons’. In general, the police do not know the motives for the shooting.
A state of emergency was declared in the city.
The number of victims is not disclosed. But the media learned that at least five people were taken to the University Hospital of Örebro. One of them was seriously injured. They were operated on.
It is reported that on 4 February at noon, the police of the city of Örebro received an alarm signal about a shooting in a local school. Police and emergency services immediately rushed to the school building.
While the police were conducting the operation, the population of the city was urged to stay at home and not go out.
The Campus Risbergska School, where the shooting took place, provides adult education.
According to teachers, there were not many people in the school on 4 February, as students had gone home after taking a national exam in the morning.
