Eight Nordic-Baltic Countries Set Red Lines for Ukraine Peace Talks With Moscow

Eight Northern European and Baltic nations have declared that any diplomatic settlement to Russia’s war against Ukraine must include “robust and credible” security guarantees to safeguard both Ukraine’s and Europe’s vital security interests.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a joint statement published on the Swedish government’s website.
The leaders of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
They stressed that international borders must not be changed by force and that negotiations can only take place in the context of a ceasefire.
The statement underlined the principle of “no decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine, and no decisions on Europe without Europe,” insisting that the Ukrainian people must have the right to determine their own future.
Welcoming U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative to facilitate peace talks, the Nordic-Baltic leaders said they stand ready to contribute diplomatically, while continuing substantial military and financial aid to Kyiv and maintaining sanctions on Russia.
“We will continue to uphold and impose restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. Peace will only come through a combination of determined diplomacy, unwavering support for Ukraine, and consistent pressure on the Russian Federation to halt its unlawful war,” the leaders emphasized.
In addition, the Nordic-Baltic states pledged to work closely with the U.S., Ukraine, and other partners to secure a peace agreement rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, and international law.
