Erdogan Officially Sworn in as Turkey's President
Re-elected President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has officially taken his oath of office, receiving the mandate from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at a ceremony in the country's capital, Ankara. This was reported by the YeniSafak news site.
The Grand National Assembly session was opened under the temporary chairmanship of Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and a deputy from Osmaniye.
At the Presidential Council meeting, Recep Tayyip Erdogan received his election certificate from Devlet Bahceli and was sworn into office.
"As President, I will defend the existence and independence of the state, the indivisible integrity of the homeland and the nation, the absolute and unconditional sovereignty of the nation. I will abide by the Constitution, the rule of law, democracy, the principles of Atatürk, the principles of a secular republic, and the peace and prosperity of the nation, national solidarity and justice. I swear on my honour and dignity before the great Turkish nation and history that I will not deviate from the ideal that everyone can enjoy human rights and fundamental freedoms, that I will strive to protect and glorify the glory and honour of the Turkish Republic, and fulfil my duty impartially,"- he declared.
In keeping with tradition, Erdogan visited the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, following the inauguration ceremony.
Afterwards, at the Presidential Complex, Erdogan will receive greetings from international leaders invited to the inauguration, including twenty-one heads of state, thirteen prime ministers, as well as parliamentarians, ministers, and representatives from various international organizations, including the Turkic Council (OTS), NATO, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Following this, an official luncheon for high-ranking guests will be held at the "Çankaya" residence.
Later, the re-elected President will announce the composition of Turkey's new government.
Erdogan is assuming the presidency for the third time. According to official results from the historic second round of elections, Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the presidential race with 52.18% of the vote. His opponent, opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, received 47.82% of the votes.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan's current presidential term will run until 2028.
