Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas Resigns to Become EU High Representative
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who is to take up the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, submitted her resignation to President Alar Karis on Monday.

On Monday, the government headed by Callas convened an extraordinary meeting at which the prime minister and the entire government resigned.
Kallas will continue to serve as acting prime minister until a new government is in place.
She expressed hope that the new government would be formed quickly enough.
Kaja Kallas has served as Prime Minister of Estonia since January 2021.
On 29 June, Climate Minister Kristen Mihal was elected as a candidate for Prime Minister of Estonia, given that Kaja Kallas will become the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and replace Josep Borrell.
It is expected that the new government led by Michal will begin work in late July or early August.
