EU Commission President: Europe Faces ‘Clear and Present Danger’

Before a special EU summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe faced ‘a clear and present danger’ and stressed the importance of increasing defence spending on the continent. Von der Leyen posted a video of her statement on the social network X.
‘In extraordinary times we need special measures. We have to put Ukraine in a condition to protect itself and to push for a lasting and just peace. I present today to the leaders the ReArm Europe plan. It is to the benefit of rearming the European Union and rearming Ukraine for its sovereignty and territorial integrity,’ the European Commission President said, standing next to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Council President Antonio Costa.
Von der Leyen also stressed that the ReArm Europe plan will increase defence spending, strengthen Europe's defence industrial base and encourage the private sector to invest.
As The Gaze reported, Ursula von der Leyen recently presented the EU's defence plan to increase defence spending. According to the plan, Europe will mobilise around €800 billion in defence spending to ensure its security and resilience.
