Germany to Supply Four More IRIS-T Systems to Ukraine This Year
Germany will transfer a number of weapons to Ukraine by the end of this year, including four IRIS-T air defence systems of different ranges and 10 Leopard tanks.
This was reported by Deutsche Welle with reference to German government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner.
According to him, in 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive 10 Gepard anti-aircraft systems, 16 self-propelled howitzers, combat drones and several thousand rounds of ammunition for artillery and tanks.
Büchner also spoke about military support for Ukraine in 2025. This includes more than 20 self-propelled howitzers, 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 37 Leopard main battle tanks, 5 Gepard anti-aircraft guns, 6 IRIS-T air defence systems and several thousand rounds of artillery and tank ammunition.
"And that is why there is no message from the German government that support (for Kyiv) will be reduced or otherwise limited," the official stressed.
Last weekend, German media reported that the current budget planning of the German federal government does not provide for additional funds to support Ukraine and that additional requests from the German Ministry of Defence for military aid to Ukraine will no longer be approved at the request of the Chancellor.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that these reports were incorrect and manipulative.
The German government has denied any intention to cut military aid to Ukraine.
As The Gaze previously reported, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz assured that Germany would continue to support Ukraine, including through a €50 billion loan from the Group of Seven. Scholz noted that Germany ‘has been and remains’ the country that provides the most assistance to Ukraine among European countries.
